SA Schools Team 2017
Failure to comply by the
State Schools Selection process, assessment and rules may affect your selection
so please read the Selection Guidelines carefully before
nominating.
The
following additional information relates to 2017:
National
championships carnival in 2017
This year’s Australian Schools Individual, Sprint and Relay
Championships will take place in Bathurst, NSW on Monday 25th September. These
events form part of the Australian Orienteering Championships Carnival which
runs from Saturday 23rd September until Sunday 1st October 2017.
The
cost for each team member for the trip will be a little over $2000 /person but
may be less depending on the level of fund raising during the year and whether
participants already have a uniform. Also it may be possible to negotiate lower
air fares once the team is confirmed. More details to follow regarding costs.
Eligibility
Any
school student attending a school affiliated with SSSSA or SAPSASA who is
between 12 and 19 years of age as at the 31st of December, 2017 is
eligible for the team. The student, if not a member of an affiliated Club with
Orienteering SA, must join a club once selected.

The 2017 State Selection Trial (SST) events are
listed below:

5: 23rd July- World’s End
A Junior Training Camp will be
held from 19th-23rd July in conjunction with the last SST. The
location of this camp will be Burra and it is expected that all potential SA
Schools Team members attend this camp.Performance at major interstate events will also be observed. This
includes results from the 2017 Australian Easter 3 Day competition and National
Orienteering League (NOL) events throughout 2017. Attendance at these events is
encouraged but due to the difficulty of attending these events it is not
compulsory.
Announcement
of team
The
team will be announced in late July by email and on the Orienteering SA
website. After the announcement, all juniors selected should accept or decline
within 3 days. Within 2 weeks of
the announcement a deposit of $500 must be made. More information will
be available closer to the date. The deposit will be fully refunded in extenuating
circumstances.
Fundraising
Fundraising, with assistance from parents and
junior squad members, will be carried out throughout the year.
